Created in 2021 by two elementary physical education teachers, the West Georgia Kickball League was designed to provide a FUN, safe, teamwork and movement-based experience where boys and girls play together without the pressure and physical demands required by most sports. Our goal is simple; to help youth understand and experience that the true reward of playing is about the experience, not the end result of winning or losing! If we can help re-focus or change their mindset, then we strongly believe that we can create a community of life-long movers. We will accomplish this by operating a fantastic program that FOCUSES ON:

  • Having fun

  • Making friends

  • Personal Fitness

  • Experiencing growth and success

  • Learning a team sport

  • Building self-esteem

PLEASE NOTE: We designed this program as an INTRODUCTORY SPORT; A GREAT LEAD IN ACTIVITY TO OTHER SPORTS. Our focus is on 8 weeks of participation, fun, and movement, and not so much on performance! Your child will have 1 official practice day and 7 games. Head Coach-Umpires will not be asked, expected, or required to plan or provide any additional practices during the kickball season. All teams, regardless of  their record, will be celebrated because we will NOT have an end of season tournament/playoffs, a champion will NOT be declared, and trophies will NOT be handed out. The West Georgia Kickball League will encourage and provide information on other sports opportunities the Parks and Recreation Departments offer for your child if our kickball program set up and philosophy is not the right fit for you and your child or you are ready to explore other sports.

THE CLASSIC GAME OF KICKBALL:

Kickball is a great introductory sport for kids to build social skills, develop teamwork and have an all-inclusive, active, playing role on a team. Kids will learn the basic fundamentals of kicking, throwing, and catching an 8.5" playground ball without much of the stress, difficulty, and danger associated in most other organized sports. Kids in our youth kickball league will have an opportunity to play approximately 7 scheduled games, and are sure to enjoy this more laid back, social approach to a youth sports league!

Kickball is a simple game consisting of two teams, four bases and a big red ball. Played like baseball, the object of the game is to score more runs than the opposing team. A game lasts six innings or 45 minutes (whichever comes first). Every player plays on defense as fielders out in the playing field. When kicking, each team is given three outs before switching to defense. Each team can have two base coaches when kicking.

Program Highlights:

  • One headband, 2 wristbands, one kickball & a souvenir coin for all players.

  • No extra equipment needed - just a pair of tennis shoes or cleats (no steal cleats)

  • A sport where EVERYONE plays in a fun, safe and professionally organized league

  • A Head Coach-Umpire who will:

    • Build self-esteem and create a positive environment for physical and mental growth.

    • Motivate, teach the game of kickball, encourage and have fun with their team.

    • Make each child's experience awesome and not make the focus all about winning!

Limited Space: There will be up to 4 to 8 teams per age division that will consist of 8-12ish players to ensure that ALL players get maximum participation in every aspect of every kickball game.

Basic Rules and Regulations in a nutshell: See the Official West Georgia Kickball League Rules for a detailed list of all rule and regulations in the Menu Bar

  1. All participants must use “Good Sportsmanship”!!!! See Sportsmanship Policy in the Menu Bar

  2. No more than two volunteer coaches are allowed on the playing field at a time. Each team will have one Head Coach-Umpire on the field at all times coaching and umpiring the game.

  3. A regulation game lasts 6 full innings or 45 minutes (whichever comes first). A tie after a regulation game will be decided by the Head Coaches playing the best 2 out of 3 Rock, Paper, Scissors to determine the winner. The winning coach’s team receives 1 run.

  4. The 6 – Run Rule per inning will always be in effect for the Minor and Major Leagues. If the kicking team scores 6 runs in one inning before getting 3 outs, that side of the inning is over and kickers become fielders and fielders become kickers.

  5. All fielders (except the catcher) must stay behind the dotted line between 1st base and 3rd base UNTIL the ball is kicked. A violation of this rule results in the kicker automatically being called safe.

  6. All kicks must be made by foot and must occur at or behind home plate. A kick in front of home plate is called a foul. Note: Exceptions will be made for this rule as players are learning the game.

  7. Play ends after each kick once the pitcher is on the mound and has control of the ball. If a baserunner is not over ½ way to the next base, the Head Coach-Umpire will send them back to the original base.

  8. Defensive players ARE ALLOWED TO THROW THE BALL AT ANY BASERUNNER to get the runner out.

    1. A baserunner is out if any defensive player throws the ball and strikes any part of the baserunner’s body (except the head) even if the ball bounces before contacting the baserunner. A head shot results in all baserunner’s advancing one base.

  9. A ball that contacts a player for an out or on any overthrown ball, causing the ball to go out of the field of play allows the other baserunners to advance 1 additional base.

  10.  NO STEALING OR LEADING OFF! Runners may not leave the base until the ball is kicked.

  11.  AN OUT IS:

  • A count of 3 fouls will equal an out.

  • A baserunner touches a ball or is contacted with any thrown ball while not on base.

  • Any kicked ball (fair or foul) that is caught in the air by a defensive player.

  • Any ball tag directly on a base or fielder who catches a ball while covering a base before the forced baserunner gets there.

  • Any runner who is off the base when the ball is kicked.
