About Us
My name is Ethan Dennis and I am ecstatic to co-create and bring this new kickball league to the area of West Georgia! I have been teaching physical education in Douglas County for 8 years at Lithia Spring Elementary, where I was awarded Teacher of the Year (2018-2019), and currently at Chapel Hill Elementary. I am committed to providing an exciting and engaging learning environment before, during and after school for my students. I earned my B.A. degree from the University of West Georgia (2014), my M.S. degree from the University of North Georgia (2019) & my Specialist Degree from Jacksonville State University (2023). I enjoy building programs that develop physically educated individuals who have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity. Outside of school I also started and serve as the camp director for Camp Adventure & Extreme at Banning Mills, a high ropes adventure camp for elementary, middle and high school students. I am excited to meet all of our new kickball stars and enjoy a fun season together!
My name is J.D. Hughes and I have been an elementary physical education teacher since 1995 in Douglas County, GA. I also had the honor of being awarded the Georgia Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year in 2004-05 and 2014-15 and was also awarded the 2014-2015 Southern District Elementary PE Teacher of the Year. I currently teach at Mirror Lake Elementary and my goal is to provide a challenging yet developmentally appropriate physical education learning environment striving for motor skill development, physical fitness and cognitive awareness as recognized by the Society of Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE). I enjoy working with students and families to promote physical fitness after school hours through the West Georgia Elementary Kickball League (www.westgakickball.com). I also enjoy serving as a cooperating teacher and mentor for local colleges. I am a National Board Certified Teacher (2001, 2011, 2021), with a Masters (1997) and Education Specialists degree (1999). I also provide staff development to local school districts, conduct conference presentations and workshops all over the nation. Please know that I am passionate about PE, constantly striving to look for new ways to improve my teaching, to share my practice, and strengthen the teaching profession.
