Everything you need to know to be a HEAD COACH-Umpire:

Coach-Umpires and league officials agree and will communicate to all those involved that our focus is on 8 weeks of participation, fun, and movement, and not so much on performance! Each child will have 1 official practice day and 7 games. Coach-Umpires will not be asked, expected, or required to plan or provide any additional practices during the kickball season. All teams, regardless of  their record, will be CELEBRATED because we will NOT have an end of season tournament/playoff, a champion will NOT be declared, and trophies will NOT be handed out. The West Georgia Kickball League will encourage and provide information on the numerous sports opportunities the Parks and Recreation Department offers for your child if our kickball program set up and philosophy is not the right fit for you and your child or you are ready to explore other sports.

Equipment needs – League officials will provide you with the following before each game:

    1. A field with 4 bases and 1 pitcher’s mound

    2. 2 kickballs (1 is a backup in case one is damaged or lost)

    3. Flip Scoreboard – League officials will bring these each week

    4. Game rosters of your players along with blank game rosters to write in your team's kicking order

  1. Each game will have two Head Coach-Umpires on the field to manage their teams as well as umpire the game.

  2. Recruit a first base and third base coach and a dug out parent to assist you in managing your team. Hopefully this can be accomplished after the Week 1 practice. Note: League officials will assist each coach in getting volunteer help for each team.

  3. All Head Coach-Umpires will have 2 roles when on the field. When on offense, the Coach-Umpire will always pitch for his/her team and help umpire the field, while also coaching his/her players. The Coach-Umpires on defense will help umpire the field as well, while also coaching their players.

  4. Get to know all of your kids by name.

  5. Motivate, teach the game of kickball, encourage and have fun with your team.

  6. Don’t focus so much on winning, but making each child's experience awesome!
